THE REST: Spring
The season of renewal and the element of wood
“Traditional Chinese Medicine explains that, in early spring, as the virgin green color fills the branches and the tree fills with the sap of life, the tree feels its potential rising up within it, along with a profound sense of being pent-up. It feels, as we feel, this pressure gradually building within, but does not yet know what it is or how it will appear; for only when its leaves burst out in the latter months of spring will its manifestation become apparent.”
//Jason Elias, 5 Elements Acupuncturist
It’s the same within ourselves - the rising sap can feel like joy and hope as well as anger and impatience after the depth and introspection we held in winter. The seeds planted last autumn that have hibernated over the winter become buds ready to break through the frozen earth, and signs of renewal begin to stir within us; the seeds of change that we planted within ourselves now push through with the new energy we feel. This sense of renewal gives us the vision and inspiration to bring our goals and creative energy into reality.
Our inner balance is affected by external factors - being a part of nature, we’re also influenced by the way it shifts and changes. And, just like nature we can benefit from noticing and adjusting our rhythms. By slowing down.
This training focuses on the shapes and movements and mindfulness practices that will support your body during the time and transitions of Spring. We’ll find and embody relaxation “from the inside out” by bringing together the influences of Chinese Medicine, yin and restorative yoga, meditation and breath work, and yoga Nidra.
